We’re Asimptot, a garage rock band from Izmir. Even though we take the stage in shirts and ties, the music we make is the complete opposite of “formal” style—think The Strokes, The Stooges, and The White Stripes.

It all started in January 2023, initiated by vocalist Çilek as an outlet for frustration and an escape from life. Since then, we’ve released 3 albums and 8 singles. Describing our style is tricky because it ranges from “the same riff for 3 minutes” to “prog rock with an 8-different-modulation 6/8 rhythm.” Although listeners often perceive us as laid-back types who don’t take our music seriously, we actually have a very rigorous work schedule behind the scenes. That’s why we gave our new album a slightly sarcastic title: “Beni Ciddiye Al (Take Me Seriously)”

Our second single, ‘Banane’, from our album ‘Beni Ciddiye Al / Take Me Seriously’ – due out in June – tells the story of a carefree person who forgets their laundry in the washing machine and explains to someone why they won’t be taking it home. Is this song absurd? Yes. Is it a bit funny? Absolutely. You might ask, “What’s this song doing on an album called ‘Take Me Seriously’?” We don’t believe you have to act mysterious or stoic just to be serious. We argue that a song can still be serious whilst being playful, absurd and funny. “Banane” isn’t a comedy. It’s a tragicomic song. It speaks of the lack of interest we experience in these days when each day passes faster than the last. And the regret that comes with it...

 

Musically, we drew inspiration from Art Rock tracks like “15 Steps”, and people might be a bit shocked because it’s a departure from the classic Asimptot sound. But that’s not a problem for us. Our new songs have never been instantly embraced by people. We’re used to this, and we believe this song will eventually become one that all our listeners will love.
