We’re Asimptot, a garage rock band from Izmir. Even though we take the stage in shirts and ties, the music we make is the complete opposite of “formal” style—think The Strokes, The Stooges, and The White Stripes.

It all started in January 2023, initiated by vocalist Çilek as an outlet for frustration and an escape from life. Since then, we’ve released 3 albums and 8 singles. Describing our style is tricky because it ranges from “the same riff for 3 minutes” to “prog rock with an 8-different-modulation 6/8 rhythm.” Although listeners often perceive us as laid-back types who don’t take our music seriously, we actually have a very rigorous work schedule behind the scenes. That’s why we gave our new album a slightly sarcastic title: “Beni Ciddiye Al (Take Me Seriously)”

Our third single, ‘1560 Işık Yılı’, from our album ‘Beni Ciddiye Al / Take Me Seriously’ inspired by 1980s Japanese City Pop and songs like David Bowie’s that speak of space, “1560 Light Years” tells the story of someone working in space in the distant future who, whilst trying to reach their loved one on Earth, falls into a black hole and arrives 40 years late. 

The track features references to sci-fi terms such as ‘spaghettification’ and ‘Dyson Sphere’, alongside a wide variety of instruments and atmospheric synths. Starting energetically, the song builds to a climactic finish – perfectly suited to alternative playlists.
